Where I’ve Been & What’s On My Mind

So it’s been a while, but I uploaded a YouTube video on what to wear when it is humid and rainy. I already have a video on what to wear when it is cold and rainy on my channel and since it has been raining non-stop here in Texas, I was inspired to make a different kind of rainy video. If you haven’t already, please watch my latest video on what to wear when it is humid and rainy.

The point of this blog post is to share with you all on where I’ve been and some possible future video ideas. So first off, if you’ve been following me for a while and also have me on other social media, you know that I am a full-time student and part-time employee. This semester I am a student journalist since I am enrolled in a Reporting course. I have been working my butt off trying to find the next story, grab connections, schedule interviews, re-schedule interviews, and remember that I have 3 other classes that I also need to worry about. I am pleased to say that I am going to have one of my stories published on the online publication at my school! This is a big deal for me because I’ve never had work published before and I know that I could now include this in my resume! But you probably do not want to talk too much about resumes do you? Lets talk about pets instead.

About a week ago, my 15-year-old cat fell from the top of the table and landed pretty badly on the floor. He appeared to be having a seizure and was rushed to the vet immediately by my parents. The good news is that the kitty is fine, but my family must respect his age and keep a closer eye on him. He will not jump up to high places anymore, but my family is perfectly fine with that. We love our cat so much.

As for my fashion blogging endeavors, I am working on doing more photo shoots once this rainy weather slows down a bit and I am also looking for other bloggers and businesses to collaborate with. I am sticking to local and small businesses for now, but one day I hope that I could collab with others on a more national level because I know all of you are from very different places and I would love it if we can all share our fashion sense and recommend place we can all go to look, feel and do our best.

Lastly, I want to bring up a major change in my makeup. Personally, my favorite makeup products are lipstick and mascara. I cannot go a day without wearing, or thinking of wearing them. Although my favorite mascara has always been Telescopic by L’Oreal, I am going to no longer use this mascara since L’Oreal, is one of the many cosmetic companies that have remained silent when PETA did research on which cosmetic companies do or do not test on animals at some point of the process. By just that alone, something doesn’t seem right. In fact, makeup has really been on my mind lately, and when I heard all the reports about ULTA reselling used makeup, I started to really think about makeup even more. There are some unethical things behind the scenes that I am not sure about. Therefore I am going to be making some changes in my beauty bag.

These are just a few updates on where I’ve been, and what has been on my mind. What have you lovely people been up to? Let’s talk! Comment below or visit my contact page, find my email and email me!

5 Other Ways To Get Over A Bad Day/Setbacks

I left my house at 7:30 a.m. and came back home almost 12 hours later. I kept reflecting on my day and the more I thought of it, the more defeated I realized I felt. How could I wake up feeling so confident, yet feel so down within the same day? Many of you know that a lot can happen in a day. A LOT.

I am a whole lot better now because I realized that there is no use crying over spilled milk and that my setbacks will never ever, overpower my comebacks. Aside from the first 5 things I do to recover that you saw in my video, here are the other 5 ways to make your comeback stronger than any of your set backs. These are different than the first 5 because it now involves others rather than just yourself.

6. Take ownership of your mistake, but keep your dignity.

Oh man. That already sounds hard, but accidents happen! Sometimes our own setbacks happen because we mess up on our end. Maybe we missed a deadline or maybe we accidentally did or said something we shouldn’t have. Whatever happened, if you know you were in the wrong, take a deep breath and take ownership of your mistake. Address it, apologize, whatever it was…do not let pride prevent you from making things right. However, keep your dignity! Do not cry, beg or blame. Remain professional. You’re a sophisticated individual who is better than making a scene like a child. This is probably the hardest step out of the 5, but it is the first thing you need to do in order for the others to work out.

7. Clear Things Out

I mean this in various ways. First off, GET ORGANIZED. Clean out that desk at work, your room, your car, your purse and even your backpack if you’re a student. Sometimes mess in itself can cause us to be overwhelmed so get organized! Keep what you need, and toss what you don’t need. Secondly and more importantly, communication. Clear out what you have been holding inside. Just say it. If there was a big misunderstanding, make it known so that it is prevented again in the future.

8. Ask For Help

If you’re anything like me, you dread asking others for help. Maybe it’s because you feel like you’re interrupting them, or maybe you feel like they’ll think you’re dumb for asking a certain question, but you need to free yourself from those thoughts. In this life, we are all here to learn. Take it upon yourself to seek knowledge. Everyone benefits in the end.

9. Don’t Be Close Minded

I know that the public can sometimes have rocky relationships with the media, but I want you to think of a journalist for a moment. Journalist often have to report stories and try their best to capture both sides of the story. A good journalist is able to do this fine, but a great journalist is able to do this in a way that both sides have a clear voice in the story and neither one of those voices is the journalist! What I’m saying is, to be neutral. Do not judge and pick sides, especially in the work place! Hear others out and try to understand them. This also ties into seeking knowledge. Know when to be a team player and when it’s best to remain neutral.

10. Get Involved.

Listen here, we can all say those four words, “I don’t have time,” but it’s a fact that we can always make time for things that need to get done. Like work, school, homework and all that serious stuff, but don’t forget about the things that make you happy! The things that you naturally gravitate towards. For me, it’s fashion blogging. If I had the “I don’t have time,” mentality, I would not be writing this and I would not be making YouTube videos or have my fashion account on Instagram. I also would have never gotten over my camera shyness! Or gotten the chance to meet interesting people and I know that I probably wouldn’t be anywhere near as happy right now. By doing what you love, you will find yourself getting involved in a community of like-minded individuals who will give you advice, support you and even be friends with! In the process, you may even learn more things about yourself.

Alrighty everyone, I hope that my video and blog motivate you on your own recovery process of going through a bad day. Just remember that your mistakes do not define who you are. Just like my statement in the beginning of my video says, you know who you are. Life is full of setbacks. There are going to be days where the world acts like it’s against you and nothing is going according to plan, but that shouldn’t leave you defeated forever. Life is hard, but that fact shouldn’t stop you from living it!

Keep going and stay stylish.

School Outfits: Week 2

Happy Friday everyone!

This week was a short week of school for me so I have three instead of four outfits to show you this week. The reason for the short week was because there was no school Monday due to Labor Day and I normally do not attend school on Fridays. Onto the outfits..

Tuesday: Orange Is The New Black

Guys, please excuse the names I make up for these outfits. I am just having some fun here with my fashion look book of the week. So I call this one orange is the new black because obviously, these two colors are in this outfit. The orange and black are intentionally paired together because I am beyond excited for Halloween! Yes, I am fully aware that we are barely beginning September right now. This skirt is from Target and it’s by Victoria Beckham’s fashion line. I am obsessed with anything that has actual pockets on them. This blouse I’m wearing is from Dillards and the designer is Alice Blue. I named this look orange is the new black because before I bought this orange skirt, I always wore this blouse with black pants or a black skirt. I really love the orange though.

Wednesday: Simple September

This outfit is just a simple white t-shirt with faded orange pants. To prevent this look from looking too plain, I paired it with some leopard printed flats I got from Charlotte Russe. When I am not sure what to wear, I always go for a white t-shirt and jeans and dress it up with some nice shoes and a dressy-casual jacket and I am set for the day. White top is from Express, pants are from Gap, and this denim jacket was thrifted.

Thursday: Going For The Gold

This last look has some gold accents to it with the shoes, the belt and the sunglasses. I normally wear silver when it comes to metallics, but I wanted a simple change. The shoes are from Steve Madden and are comfortable without sacrificing style. I always appreciate a stylish pair of sneakers. The pants are from Express and belt and sunglasses are from the store Rue21. My top is also from Target. Yes, I really like clothes from Target apparently!

Steve Madden Shoes

That is all I have for this week’s outfits. I am already onto week 3 starting Monday! Time if flying by so fast. Have a great evening and stay stylish!

Outfits For School: Week 1

So I just completed my first day back to school and I already know that this semester will have new challenges for me. This is the first semester that my boyfriend is attending the same school as me and he is even taking some classes with me now that I made a change to my minor. I already know which classes will require more study time and which ones I am feeling confident in. Although the first week is always one of the most hectic, I wasn’t going to show it by dressing like a hot mess! Here are the outfits I wore for my first week back to school!

I kept things pretty simple yet put together for my first day back because I wanted an outfit that wasn’t too over the top, but still eye-catching. Plus, dresses are one of my favorite things to wear!

I also wanted to make sure that this outfit didn’t look like it was stuck in summer mode and not welcoming to fall, so I added a light jacket and some cool boots to go with it.

TUESDAY: Laid-Back Girly

This outfit is more laid back than the Monday outfit because I wore some workout tights as pants and some chunky heeled boots that give a feminine approach yet feel like sneakers. The lavender purple top and stone necklace add the girly appeal. This is the perfect outfit to wear if you are going to be doing a lot of walking and have a full day ahead of you.

This outfit gave me that rocker off duty feeling because of the military printed jeans and the semi ripped white jacket that stands out. I LOVE this outfit. I love that it grabs attention and stands out from basic denim. I also love how well the black and white pieces worked with the military print.

My favorite color in the whole wide world is red! I decided to wear my favorite color as I completed my first week back to school. I will definitely be wearing red more this fall and I named this look ‘Reddy For Anything’ because I really want an optimistic start to a new semester with new classes, new people, and new experiences. As excited as I was to go back to school, by the time I finished my homework, I was so ready for the weekend!

So there you have it. all the outfits I wore for my first week back to school. I normally do not go to school on Fridays since I work most of the day, but please let me know if you would like me to include a Friday outfit anyway! Also let me know which of these outfits was your favorite. I am going to do an outfits of the week blog post every week of this semester and hopefully it will give you some outfit inspiration!

Have a happy Saturday and stay stylish!

Ready For Fall

I just finished my first week of the fall semester and I am both excited and overwhelmed. I cannot stand the first day where either you are put in the spot to talk about yourself or you have to listen to your professor overwhelm you with their syllabi of what you are expected to do for the entire semester, all crammed into one class. I really cannot stand talking about myself, but I do love hearing about what other people have to say. I often see that people will post things saying, “Good-bye Summer,” or “Summer is over,” and being super bummed out about going back to school. Well I am here to tell you that I love summer too, but I am also that nerdy person who actually looks forward to going back to school and saying, good-bye summer and hello fall! I was that odd kid who couldn’t wait for summer to be over so I could learn more.

My persona in school is very different than the person I am outside of school. I tend to be very serious and focused in school and most of the time I keep to myself. I would only speak if called upon or if participation was being counted as a percentage of my grade. On the other hand, if I am not in school, I am the complete opposite of the person I just described. I suddenly become a loud mouth who has an opinion on everything. I make my presence known everywhere I go instead of keeping to myself. And don’t even get me started on my vocabulary when not in student mode.

I am over the summer heat we have in Texas. Lately I have been enjoying the cool mornings where it is about 80 degrees with a cool breeze. The fact that 80 degree weather is considered cool to me, should tell you how hot it gets in my hometown. This leads me to the image above. I am holding a big bridal shower box over my head in order to shield my face from the sun. My mom thought it was too funny to not take a picture.

My favorite season is fall. I love the way that the leaves turn orange and red. I love that the weather is not too hot or cold. I love the fashion trends during this time! I am going to be going crazy with that. I also love the holidays that fall during this time such as Halloween and Thanksgiving. Oh, and pumpkin spice everything is the key to my heart.

Yes, during this time is school. Yes, I am going to have to be studying. Yes, I am completely aware of responsibilities during the fall season, but it is still my favorite.

I cannot wait to show you all some fall outfits I am planning on wearing this year. What season is your favorite?

Stay positive about going back to school and stay stylish!

Today’s blog will be a continuation of my back-to-school theme, but will still be a little different. Monday I showed you guys a sporty look I created with the athletic student in mind and then yesterday I wrote my blog that had to do with taking care of business and placed an image of my business student look on it. Yesterday I talked about my personal struggle of realizing the STEM career field wasn’t for me, but that women of STEM amaze me every single day. Today, I will be showing you guys a blast from the past with some images of anything art related that I have done in the past because I am now channeling my inner art student!

I know that those who study art doesn’t just mean that you do art work. I understand. So I am also going to talk about my experience in my high school musical, Hairspray!!

This experience was definitely the highlight of my senior year and high school career. We had about a 3 hour rehearsal everyday after school from mid October thru early December. Throughout this time there was so many things going on in my life. First of all, I didn’t tell anyone that I was going to audition. Secondly, my ex was also auditioning and I was still not completely comfortable around him. Third, his new chick he had been talking to was the queen of acting at our high school. Fourth, I knew NOBODY. I made new friends during auditions, but none of them made it on the list, so I was back to knowing nobody again. Fifth, my ex and his new chick made the cut -.- and on top of all of this, my friend Ricky was in the hospital throughout this whole time due to his colon cancer returning.

My ex almost became my dance partner, which is why I thank God every day for my friend and dance partner, Rene.

Rene became my dance partner. He was a junior while I was a senior. He kept me strong throughout this entire production and I really couldn’t have asked for a better partner.

hairspray2Here I am pictured with all the other female, “nicest kids in town” and this photo was taken at the very end of the play when we all had to come out and bow. This was a very proud moment for me because I almost didn’t try out after seeing how many people were auditioning and my ex boyfriend. What made this play most important to me is that it was dedicated to my friend Ricky’s passing that same month. I forgot all about fear at that moment. I forgot all about my ex and his new girl. I forgot all about how I was way outside of my comfort zone and just went out there!

With that said, never be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. You may end up having the best time of your life!

On a side note, Hurricane Harvey is causing some storms here in South Texas. It looks like my city is going to get hit pretty hard. Weather reports predict that we are going to get 8-12 inches of rain through Saturday and Sunday. My first day back at school will depend on the extent of the rain and of course, the aftermath flooding will cost. If I am a little behind on blog posts, please do not be alarmed, I am probably just going to be with my family or maybe just experiencing power outages.

South Texas followers, use your common sense and turn around, don’t drown! Stay safe, and stay stylish.
