National Thrift Store Day!

Instagram has made me aware that it is National Thrift Store Day today! I personally love to thrift shop and it has saved me a lot of money while also keeping me in style. Thrift Store finds have made their way to almost every single outfit that I wear. You can honestly find a ton of stuff at a thrift store and I really love the fact that when people compliment something I am wearing, that item or piece of apparel is almost always thrifted.

I have no shame in being a thrift store shopper. I am letting you guys know that I almost never buy anything regular priced when it comes to clothes, accessories and shoes. If thrift store shopping is absolutely not your thing, then I recommend that you find some re-sale stores in your area. Re-sale stores in my hometown are Plato’s Closet, Uptown Cheapskate and New To You. These stores buy and sell second-hand merchandise and these items that they buy and sell are usually name brand items!

If you are absolutely not a fan of second-hand clothing, shoes, accessories or anything like that, but still want to save money, I highly suggest saving money for those end of season sales. My favorite store to shop at when this happens is Dillards! I LOVE that store. If you do not want to wait until the end of the season to shop deals, log on to the store’s website and look at their sales and promotions to see if you get lucky!

I hope you guys are all having a great week and are completely aware that staying stylish does not have to be so pricey!

If you would like to see my top four favorite thrift store finds, starting with the frontal view of the summer dress I am wearing in the image below, please find me on Instagram @alamocitysara 🙂

My First Photo Shoot

My fashion account on Instagram was born June 4th, 2017. Just five days after its birth, I did my very first photo shoot at a park. I had chosen three different outfits and of course, my boyfriend was my photographer. I decided to talk about this today because I know a lot of you may be fashion bloggers or fashion lovers who see a lot of people on social media looking flawless all the time and may wonder how a person could be so photogenic and great looking all the time.

I did my very first photo shoot on June 9th and had to find my strength to not run away from the camera. All my life I believed that I just wasn’t photogenic and that I could never stand in front of a camera. EVER.

On the other hand, people complimenting my outfits would spark a voice in the back of my head that would tell me that I should try becoming a fashion blogger. I always ignored it because I told myself that I would never be like the fashion bloggers or beauty gurus I see on YouTube or Instagram and that my pictures would suck and that no one would follow me, yadda, yadda.

Then I had to take my Portfolio and Professional Development class earlier this summer.

My professor wanted us to create a digital portfolio to display what we wanted to do as a career. Even though I am studying Communications, I still have no idea what I truly want out of it. It seemed like all my classmates were ahead of the game and soon I was intimidated by photographers who had their own work to display, journalist who had articles they had written and then there was me. I had nothing to really show for myself and I found myself waking up in the middle of the night believing that I wasn’t good at anything.

I then decided, what the hell? Who am I living for? Why am I here feeling sorry for myself? I am pretty great at dressing up. I know this may sound very arrogant, but sometimes you have to toot your own horn. It worked for me because soon I found myself activating my Instagram account, creating this blog, and taking pictures without running away from it!

The pictures you see in this post are all from my very first photo shoot. I did three different outfits and I felt super awkward and uncomfortable that I probably would have not been able to take decent pictures if anyone other than my boyfriend was my photographer. I felt silly doing certain poses or facial expressions because I was in a public place and I knew that out of curiosity, people would look from time to time.

I honestly look at these pictures and see a difference in how I take photos now versus then. I am more confident in front of the camera now-a-days. It took consistent work and motivation to try harder and I still have both great and not so great photo shoots still. There are just some days that your photos come out great and other days where a domino effect of bad luck just happens. I am glad I am able to share with you all some stepping stones to my fashion endeavor and I hope that this motivates you to overcome camera awkwardness or makes you feel better about your own pictures!

Share this blog with someone who may be camera shy or is stopping themselves from going after that dream the voice in the back of their head is urging them to go for!

Stay stylish!

Yes, I know this image looks like I am smelling my armpit! But cut me some slack, this was my first photo shoot and I had NO idea how to pose hahaha

4 Things To Remember Before You Begin Your Back-To-School Shopping Spree

Hello everyone, it is that time of year again when back-to-school shopping is becoming a priority on almost everyone’s checklist. Here are some simple tips on things every girl needs to remember before she begins her back-to-school shopping.

Number 1: Look at your closet to see what you already have

I know there are certain things that we just cannot seem to have enough of, but a lot of the times what our closet needs is balance in order to prevent you from feeling like you have a closet full of clothes yet not a single thing to wear. I am learning this better myself by trying to focus more on neutral pieces rather than buying something that is just simply colorful and eye-catching.

Number 2: If you are going to be trying on clothes, wear a nude colored bra and mid-rise underwear.

I know this seems weird, but don’t you just hate it when you try on a pretty white blouse and can’t get past the fact that your hot pink bra is just peeking through the fabric? With a nude colored bra, you do not have to worry about this happening on any top that you wear because it is see-through proof.

As for the mid-rise underwear, you want to wear this because you are probably going to be trying on different rise bottoms and you want to make sure that your underwear is not going to give you a hip-dip when trying on fitted skirts or that it wont be peeking out if you squat down while wearing your pants. A mid-rise, hipster type of underwear will help you decide on whether or not your clothes will work out for you.

Number 3: Think of things that you already have in mind of purchasing, and purchase those items first!

Don’t you just hate when what you want is no longer in stock? I know I do! If there is something out there that you really, really want, do not stop yourself if you know that there is a chance that the item can sell out fast or if a big sale such as tax-free weekend is going to attract heavy traffic in the store. Just go for it if you really want or need it!

Number 4: If you see something you like, think about how you can wear it with items you already have.

I use this shopping strategy all the time. When I see something I like at the store or online, I ask myself how I would wear it with pieces I already have in my closet. The more you can use whatever it is you want to buy with items that are already in your possession, the more likely that it will be a useful asset to your wardrobe and will also help you avoid buyer’s remorse.

I hope you all keep this in mind when you go back-to-school shopping. If you haven’t already, look at my last blog post and see if the type of student you are fits in any of the categories. I could really use your feedback on a project I am working on.

Good luck with back-to-school shopping and stay stylish 🙂

Work, Work, Work, Work, Work

Before I got my current job, I was working retail. I was working at the store WetSeal and pretty much had the ability to wear whatever I wanted as long as it was an appropriate length and cut that would represent the store and myself well. WetSeal merchandise was always encouraged to wear, so you can imagine just how much I would spend on clothes there on pay day. Plus who doesn’t like a great employee discount?

Now that I am in an office environment, there had to be some changes to my wardrobe. I am the person who sits at the front desk. I answer phone calls, I work on documents, I greet visitors and try to help them with general questions about certain services and because I sit in the front desk, I am the first face people see which puts the need to represent my department well. This put some pressure on me about what I can’t wear anymore. No more ripped jeans. No more spaghetti strapped tops. No more shorts, even if they were dressy shorts. No more shirts that say words like “Tacos & Tequila” or “Beach Please” or “no makeup, no problem” or “all I need is coffee and wifi”…you get the picture. I went into the job interview wearing a high neck black dress and black closed toe flats. I kept the makeup natural looking and straightened my hair. You have no idea how much I researched on what to wear for an interview. Maybe I can blog on some tips soon?

Anyways, my style has transformed since being at my current job and today I am going to show you 3 different looks that I have gotten compliments on at work. This first one is a bit fierce, but it is not over the top. In my personal opinion, mixing two different animal prints is pretty daring and can make any outfit look more trendy. This outfit is under $75 and has started a lot of conversations from visitors to the office.

Workit1

This second outfit was under $50! The colors in this outfit made me think of Daphnie from Scooby-Doo! Pretty sophisticated and girly at the same time.

Look2

Last look is one that plays with flawless black and white with a pop of color! This outfit was also under $75 and the skirt was only $4!

Look3

Which one of these outfits is your favorite? Do you want to know details on these outfits? Tomorrow I will be posting more details on these three outfits and am currently working on a video for you guys! I hope you guys enjoyed these looks. Do not be afraid to allow your style to grow up with you! Stay stylish my friends.

The Impeccable Pig & Pizza

Hello everyone!

What happens when you want to do a photo shoot outdoors, but then it rains? You take your photos indoors instead and just make due with your surroundings!

The other day my boyfriend and I went to go eat some pizza. The original pizza place we went to was unexpectantly closed, so we went to the nearest pizza place instead. We ended up being the only people there and coincidentally, my outfit kind of blended in with the color scheme of the restaurant! This is what happened.

Pizza

Did not expect a photo shoot to take place in a pizza place, but I honestly really liked the way that these photos came out because the complimented the outfit very well.

So let me tell you the outfit details. I know I usually save outfit details on my Instagram only, but today I am going to tell you right now since it will explain the title. The Impeccable Pig is actually the name of the store that I got this romper from! It is a strapless romper that originally comes with a tie that matches the print of the romper. I made this romper my own by tieing a red ribbon around my waist so the roses could stand out and added a short sleeved button-up shirt from Charlotte Russe to wear over it.

I bought this romper when the store had their big $12 sale and as of now, this is the only purchase I have bought from this store but I hope to change that!

Pizza6

I was very satisfied with my first purchase from The Impeccable Pig. I loved that this romper didn’t have super short shorts and was a respectable length. I also loved that it wasn’t super thin or see-through and that I can wear it in so many different ways!

Go check out The Impeccable Pig’s Instagram account or website if you are interested in their store. They have some pretty cute items! Link for their website is below!

I hope you all liked these photos and will take some time to check out The Impeccable Pig to tell me what you think or if you have bought anything from this store.

Enjoy some pizza and stay stylish!

What The Rain Told Me

Hello everyone! As you know from yesterday’s post, it was raining here in my hometown. I left out some details of the significance of the rainy weather so let me explain by saying this first, it stormed so badly in my area that I was only at work for an hour before everyone was sent home due to a bug power outage. The rain came in with a bang and caused flooding, many accidents, power outages, stalled cars, lightning shows, gusts of raging wind and panic to a lot of people who were out and about or watching the news at home. Eventually the rain did stop in the evening, but man was it scary Monday morning.

I never saw this storm coming. Never heard form anywhere that there was a chance of rain or anything like that so I was definitely taken off guard. Secondly, the rain washed away a lot of filth. The plants are standing tall and bright now and the streets in the neighborhoods look brand new. Whatever bird poop was on my car prior to the storm was long gone and when the sun finally peeked out, it was like a different place than before. This got me thinking of my how much my soul could use a bit of cleansing.

Lessonsbyrain

I had school, work, my fashion endeavor, my fitness journey and social life all over the place and organization was non-existent. I am going to really try to be more consistent and to be honest, I really enjoy blogging at night before bed because it reminds me of how I used to write in my diary, but once school starts, I am not sure if anyone is going to stay up to read my blog. I can still post in the evening, but it would probably be at 9 p.m. which I believe is a respectable hour.

Speaking of consistency, I want to transform my Instagram into a set theme or pattern instead of posting random things all the time. I have been YouTubing videos on how to edit photos, how to pose, how to set a theme, how to view grids and all sorts of things. I am able to dive deeper into this now that I finished my summer courses! I took two classes and gave it my best shot and thankfully came out with passing grades in both classes. I owe it to myself these next two weeks to put myself first now and focus wholeheartedly on my blog and on my Instagram and of course taking some fashion photos for you all.

So how does any of this relate to the rain we had over here?

Well for starters, the rain was pretty scary at first and things got pretty ugly. I felt this way when I started this blog and my Instagram account. I found myself doing the first photo shoot and felt kinda silly posing in a park. I honestly felt overwhelmed and tired afterwards. Overwhelmed and tired were feelings that I got know a bit too much this summer. Now that I do not have to worry about going to school, some weight has been taken off my shoulders.

Secondly, the rain went all out at first and flooded everything, but after a while it was more steady. This is how I feel about the way my Instagram account is. I uploaded about four photos the first day I created my Instagram which was June 4, 2017. I also posted about three photos a day which was super tiring and an unrealistic expectation of myself. Now I try to post one photo a day and sometimes two. Either way, I don’t want it all to be revolving around the same shoot because I don’t want to annoy followers with the same kind of photos over and over again.

Lastly, the rain nourished everything around it in a way that no human simply can’t do by themselves. This taught me that I am going to need help from others if I really want my fashion endeavor to be a success. I am a very independent person and I hate asking for help, but I need it. I can only take so many good photos of myself, by myself. It helps when someone can take your photo. Also, I cant be the only follower to my fashion account and expect people to get tips and outfit inspiration. I am seriously nothing without any of my followers so I will end this blog by telling you all thank you again for becoming a part of my fashion family and following my Instagram account or blog right here on WordPress. Your support means everything to me and I always try to be as interactive with you all as much as possible, so don’t be a stranger, say hi and comment once in a while on here or on my Instagram. I love hearing from you all.

Think about what it is you really want and just go for it! But remember to stay stylish while you are out there working for what you want!

Music + Fashion

Hello everyone! It is raining like crazy where I live, deep in the heart of Texas!

Rainy days are the best days to watch music videos all day long, which brings me to this fun topic which is 5 music videos I can think of from the top of my head that has nice fashion! I am going to start it off with Gwen Stefani’s music video for ‘Cool’

Gwen just looks so gorgeous in the present and in the flashbacks she has with an ex boyfriend. I love the vintage summer dresses she wears and it gives viewers a nostalgic feeling when they look at it. Although I cannot relate to the song, this is one of my favorite songs from her. The new girlfriend/wife is also beautiful! Oh, and the hairstyles in this video is also stunning!

This next one is from the band HAIM which has three sisters in it, Alana, Danielle and Este Haim. They each have their own style which shows in all their videos. I chose this video because the outfits they wear are all outfits I would personally wear. You can see who is more casual, who is more rocker, and who is the girliest in this music video here, ‘Want You Back’

This next one is a complete 180 from the fashion and music in HAIM’s music video. This one is a country music video from the artist Jennifer Nettles. This is her song ‘Unlove You’ and I want that red dress! She wears three different dresses in this video, the red one at the bar, the silver one under water and the red one under water. The red one under water is the same as the one before, but they put a longer red skirt over it to make it more dramatic. I tear up when I hear this song. No other country love song sung by a woman gives me a stronger emotional feeling. It’s so powerful.

This next one will help you get the tears out of your eyes from that last one, it’s one of Sheryl Crow’s hits that needs to be in everyone’s summer playlist, its ‘Soak Up The Sun’ ! Sheryl makes me want to go out and live near the beach so I can have the perfect excuse to dress like this every day! from the swimsuits, to the bohemian beach babe wardrobe, to those slick sunglasses and stone/seashell jewelry, how can you not love this?

Since I did one with some summer fashion, this next one is some winter fashion without it being a Christmas song of course, Alicia Keys music video for ‘If I Ain’t Got You’ this song by her holds a special place in my heart because one of my best friends sang this song when we did karaoke for my birthday one year. I think of her every time I hear this song! It’s one of those songs that will make me smile no matter what.

I hope you all enjoyed reading and watching these videos. These are all based on my own personal opinion and songs that I like to listen to. These videos were also ones that I was able to think of from the top of my head, so please don’t freak out if you really felt like I missed a lot of good fashion forward videos. I know these songs and videos ( with the exception of HAIM) are all old and whatnot, but I love the fashion and the music of hack then a lot! You can comment which music videos you like the fashion in! I would love to know what you guys like and listen to.

Enjoy some music and stay stylish!
