National Thrift Store Day!

Instagram has made me aware that it is National Thrift Store Day today! I personally love to thrift shop and it has saved me a lot of money while also keeping me in style. Thrift Store finds have made their way to almost every single outfit that I wear. You can honestly find a ton of stuff at a thrift store and I really love the fact that when people compliment something I am wearing, that item or piece of apparel is almost always thrifted.

I have no shame in being a thrift store shopper. I am letting you guys know that I almost never buy anything regular priced when it comes to clothes, accessories and shoes. If thrift store shopping is absolutely not your thing, then I recommend that you find some re-sale stores in your area. Re-sale stores in my hometown are Plato’s Closet, Uptown Cheapskate and New To You. These stores buy and sell second-hand merchandise and these items that they buy and sell are usually name brand items!

If you are absolutely not a fan of second-hand clothing, shoes, accessories or anything like that, but still want to save money, I highly suggest saving money for those end of season sales. My favorite store to shop at when this happens is Dillards! I LOVE that store. If you do not want to wait until the end of the season to shop deals, log on to the store’s website and look at their sales and promotions to see if you get lucky!

I hope you guys are all having a great week and are completely aware that staying stylish does not have to be so pricey!

If you would like to see my top four favorite thrift store finds, starting with the frontal view of the summer dress I am wearing in the image below, please find me on Instagram @alamocitysara 🙂

4 Things To Remember Before You Begin Your Back-To-School Shopping Spree

Hello everyone, it is that time of year again when back-to-school shopping is becoming a priority on almost everyone’s checklist. Here are some simple tips on things every girl needs to remember before she begins her back-to-school shopping.

Number 1: Look at your closet to see what you already have

I know there are certain things that we just cannot seem to have enough of, but a lot of the times what our closet needs is balance in order to prevent you from feeling like you have a closet full of clothes yet not a single thing to wear. I am learning this better myself by trying to focus more on neutral pieces rather than buying something that is just simply colorful and eye-catching.

Number 2: If you are going to be trying on clothes, wear a nude colored bra and mid-rise underwear.

I know this seems weird, but don’t you just hate it when you try on a pretty white blouse and can’t get past the fact that your hot pink bra is just peeking through the fabric? With a nude colored bra, you do not have to worry about this happening on any top that you wear because it is see-through proof.

As for the mid-rise underwear, you want to wear this because you are probably going to be trying on different rise bottoms and you want to make sure that your underwear is not going to give you a hip-dip when trying on fitted skirts or that it wont be peeking out if you squat down while wearing your pants. A mid-rise, hipster type of underwear will help you decide on whether or not your clothes will work out for you.

Number 3: Think of things that you already have in mind of purchasing, and purchase those items first!

Don’t you just hate when what you want is no longer in stock? I know I do! If there is something out there that you really, really want, do not stop yourself if you know that there is a chance that the item can sell out fast or if a big sale such as tax-free weekend is going to attract heavy traffic in the store. Just go for it if you really want or need it!

Number 4: If you see something you like, think about how you can wear it with items you already have.

I use this shopping strategy all the time. When I see something I like at the store or online, I ask myself how I would wear it with pieces I already have in my closet. The more you can use whatever it is you want to buy with items that are already in your possession, the more likely that it will be a useful asset to your wardrobe and will also help you avoid buyer’s remorse.

I hope you all keep this in mind when you go back-to-school shopping. If you haven’t already, look at my last blog post and see if the type of student you are fits in any of the categories. I could really use your feedback on a project I am working on.

Good luck with back-to-school shopping and stay stylish 🙂

In The Eyes Of The Beholder

I often write about fashion on here. I love the fact that when a person takes the time to dress up or try a new style that they begin to have a positive change in their confidence and even their attitude. I love seeing the way that fashion is used to help people express themselves and the fact that it helps them stand taller when they walk from down the hall to down the streets. These are the reasons why fashion and style are so important to me. It is not a status thing. It is not a materialistic thing or a “just for fun” thing, but so much more than that.

My heart breaks a little when someone says that fashion isn’t important or even necessary is one’s life, because I couldn’t disagree more.

Before starting my fashion account on Instagram or blogging on here, I was told by many people that they loved how I dressed. It would make my day to know that the time and effort I put into my wardrobe before I walked out was not just a pigment of my imagination. I know this seems very arrogant of me, but isn’t it nice when someone gives you a compliment?

Isn’t it even nicer when the person that gives you a compliment is not solely just people who are online or through social media?

Let me tell you something Kenny, it’s pretty flattering and you never quite forget it.

The other day when I was taking some pictures of the work outfits I showed you guys the other day, a lady who was walking her two dogs passed by and told me that I looked beautiful. She didn’t specify any one particular item on my outfit but she did analyze my outfit head to toe behind her big sunglasses. The outfit she saw was the one with the leopard dress. If I had to pick one outfit that I was a little hesitant to wear at first, it was the one with this dress. However, this outfit is the one that has received the most compliments and has started the most conversations.

When we receive compliments from others, there can sometimes be an initial reaction of surprise because what we may have walked out the door feeling super casual or kicking ourselves in the butt for forgetting to wear that necklace or wake up earlier to fix our hair and so forth, but what we see is not going to be what other people will see. It’s often in the eyes of the beholder that they are able to see something positive in others. When I see the image above of myself, the first thing I saw was how my stomach folds. I have rolls guys. Did you notice that when you saw this photo?

Probably not, but now I just pointed it out to you.

The point is, we make too big of an issue over very small and unimportant things. Would you have thought that because of the way my stomach looked, I almost didn’t post this photo? My mind changed when I shifted my focus on my legs instead. I have pretty nice legs thanks to running all those miles!

A few people from my Instagram family on my fashion account have reached out to me with some questions on fashion and other tips. Some of them were friends from high school who I have not seen in about three years already. Since I still consider myself very amateur at blogging and having a fashion account on Instagram, I can honestly say that I was able to reach success in a matter of two months. My success is not determined by how many followers I have on here or over there on Instagram, but rather when I know that others view me credible enough to ask me fashion, style and shopping questions. Do not get me wrong, it is nice seeing my Instagram and fashion blog family grow, but the number of followers are not what determine my success. People are welcome to come and go as they please as long as they stay kind to one another while they remain here. That is all I ask.

Through the eyes of others, I have learned that I actually dress pretty well! Through the eyes of others, I have learned that they do not see my imperfections. Through the eyes of others, I learned that fashion is what has made me stand out from the crowd.

I hope you all have a great start to your weekend and remember to stay stylish!

Work, Work, Work, Work, Work

Before I got my current job, I was working retail. I was working at the store WetSeal and pretty much had the ability to wear whatever I wanted as long as it was an appropriate length and cut that would represent the store and myself well. WetSeal merchandise was always encouraged to wear, so you can imagine just how much I would spend on clothes there on pay day. Plus who doesn’t like a great employee discount?

Now that I am in an office environment, there had to be some changes to my wardrobe. I am the person who sits at the front desk. I answer phone calls, I work on documents, I greet visitors and try to help them with general questions about certain services and because I sit in the front desk, I am the first face people see which puts the need to represent my department well. This put some pressure on me about what I can’t wear anymore. No more ripped jeans. No more spaghetti strapped tops. No more shorts, even if they were dressy shorts. No more shirts that say words like “Tacos & Tequila” or “Beach Please” or “no makeup, no problem” or “all I need is coffee and wifi”…you get the picture. I went into the job interview wearing a high neck black dress and black closed toe flats. I kept the makeup natural looking and straightened my hair. You have no idea how much I researched on what to wear for an interview. Maybe I can blog on some tips soon?

Anyways, my style has transformed since being at my current job and today I am going to show you 3 different looks that I have gotten compliments on at work. This first one is a bit fierce, but it is not over the top. In my personal opinion, mixing two different animal prints is pretty daring and can make any outfit look more trendy. This outfit is under $75 and has started a lot of conversations from visitors to the office.

This second outfit was under $50! The colors in this outfit made me think of Daphnie from Scooby-Doo! Pretty sophisticated and girly at the same time.

Last look is one that plays with flawless black and white with a pop of color! This outfit was also under $75 and the skirt was only $4!

Look3

Which one of these outfits is your favorite? Do you want to know details on these outfits? Tomorrow I will be posting more details on these three outfits and am currently working on a video for you guys! I hope you guys enjoyed these looks. Do not be afraid to allow your style to grow up with you! Stay stylish my friends.

My Favorite Long Earrings

Can we talk about jewelry in a fun and non-controversial way now? Great!

I got a second ear piercing about three weeks ago and it has reminded me of how fun it is to wear earrings and jewelry in general. Although I am not a simple jeans and t-shirt girl, I can easily make a simple look my own when I have the right jewelry! Today I am going to show my favorite long earrings that I own. I was supposed to pick my top 5, but I hope you are all okay with seeing my top 6 instead!

I am going to start things off with a pair of earrings that have my favorite color: RED!

These were handmade from a lady who sells jewelry. She had made these earrings to sell at a yard sale in order to make extra money. I am wearing them in the images below!

Remember to be kind to one another and of course, stay stylish!

What Kind of Shopper Are You?

Did you see my photo on Instagram this morning? It was pretty ridiculous right? If you have no clue what I am talking about, you need to go take a look!

I get so anxious for online orders to arrive to my house. I feel like it takes forever and that alone drives me crazy! I know I could pay extra for quicker shipping, but that is about $20 or more automatically added to the overall total. No thank you.

Two things came in the mail for me yesterday. One was the black pants I have been needing from Fashion Nova and the other was a romper from a new store I hadn’t ever purchased from before called The Impeccable Pig. Interesting name right? I am going to do a different blog where I tell you guys all about that.

Fashion Nova gave me a 30% off coupon for my next purchase. So instead of waiting…I bought a top last night and am finding myself back on waiting for something to come in the mail!

A traditional shopper who prefers to go to the mall and have instant gratification of physically having an item in their hands is totally understandable. In fact, I still consider myself a traditional shopper over an online shopper. I never really trust size charts and returns are always such a hassle and a big disappointment when it is a final sale and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Are you guys an online shopper or are you more of a traditional shopper that goes to malls and stores to buy your items?

Getting What I Need & Working For What I Want

Do any of you remember my Wants VS Needs blog?

If not, I pretty much made a list of all the things I currently want to have and then a list of the things I know I really need. These all revolved around clothes and other materialistic items I want, but I am glad to say that I have bought one thing from this list already and it was something that I needed which was some black high-waisted pants. I went to Fashion Nova and saw that the original pants I wanted was sold out in my size! Instead of letting this ruin my day, I went ahead and browsed through the site for some other high-waisted black pants. I’m glad I did this because the ones I bought instead are so nice that I cannot wait to receive it in the mail by tomorrow!

Here are the pants I bought

Just A Taste Jeans

I went ahead and bought these versus the original ones I posted, and I have to say, I am pretty excited to get my hands on these! For those of you who do not shop at Fashion Nova, I highly recommend their jeans if you have a pear-shaped figure. This is probably my favorite place to get jeans. If they do not have what you want, select your size, and type in your email so they can let you know when they restock on it and have it available for you!

I have successfully checked one thing off my list! I am going to remain frugal with my funds and see how long I can hold off before buying something that I want. I am really trying to save more money because I know I work so hard for it!

Have you guys treated yourself to something you want or need yet? Let me know!

Stay stylish, but save your money!!
