Outfits of the Week: Week 7

What a week it has been! So many things are happening in the world and I cannot help but feel pretty useless just watching the news on TV. We have the wildfires in California, we have many of our government officials in Puerto Rico trying to pick up what Maria left behind, we have the mourning from the Las Vegas shooting, and the Harvey Weinstein news that makes me sick. Then we have our own personal lives. Whether it’s work, school, relationships or setbacks, life is just happening and nothing is going to stop it. I could have easily curled up in a ball after enduring everything I saw on the news, hearing about my boyfriend’s car window being hit with a bb gun and needing to be replaced, getting frustrated at work, overwhelmed with homework and feeling like I may be spreading myself out too thin, but the quickest way for me to instantly feel better is the way that I dress.

I may be struggling and be under a lot of pressure, but as long as my outfit is okay, I will be too. Here are the outfits of the week!

Monday: Denim Vest: Thrifted, Tank top: Macy’s, Skirt: Charlotte Russe, Shoes: Dillards, brand is Gianni Bini

Tuesday: I did not get to take a photo of my outfit since this is the day my boyfriend’s car window needed to be repaired. 😦

Wednesday’s Outfit: Pink lace blouse: Wetseal, Denim: Express, Boots: Dillards, brand is Gianni Bini

This blouse received a lot of compliments. I used to work at Wetseal and the company unfortunately went out of business about a year after I left. I have heard that they are coming back, but have not seen anything yet! It was one of my favorite stores and it will be missed greatly. I wear these jeans so much because the distress in them is subtle and the was is unique. The boots are a great fit for this outfit because I did not want to wear black shoes, but still needed a neutral shoe to go along with my outfit. These were perfect!

10 Things To Never Say To A Fashion Girl

Last night I vented to my boyfriend about how I just couldn’t figure out what to wear and how my room was a complete disaster and that nothing I tried on fit right, blah, blah! Since he is a guy who cannot relate to my feeling of wardrobe helplessness, he expressed that he couldn’t understand my feelings and couldn’t understand why I did not have the capability to, and I quote, “just pick something!”

Judging by the look on my face, he regretted telling me that. I remember sitting up and mimicking, “Just pick something?” Then more angrily, “Just pick something?!

At that moment I thought of the perfect topic to blog about which is *drumroll here*

10 things you should never say to a fashion girl

Here’s a list so check it twice before you even think of saying these words to a fashionista

1.”Just Pick Something” (sorry babe)

giphy

Let me break it down for you why you shouldn’t tell a fashionista this. We would rather be overdressed than show up somewhere looking sloppy. We do not like to look sloppy and we want to look gorgeous. I don’t think my boyfriend would appreciate it if “I just picked” a hoodie and sweats with flip-flops instead of taking the time to look nice. While he wears his button-up shirt and cool kicks, I am pretty sure that he would not want to be seen next to a girl on campus that other students cannot tell if she’s another student or a hobo. No. Not going to happen. Therefore, I cannot and I will not, “just pick something.”

2.  “How do you have nothing to wear? You have tons of clothes!”

giphy (1)

Yes, we know we have tons of clothes. But trends are always changing and so is our desire to keep up with those trends. Is it such a crime?

3. “You’re going out in that?”

giphy (2)

It breaks my heart when I hear this and I know this statement goes both ways whether you look overdone or looking like a walking wardrobe malfunction. Either way, it’s pretty heartbreaking to hear this. If a fashionista takes time to get ready and walks out in a form fitting dress and tall boots with heels and her significant other or loved one tells her she needs to “tone it down” or “change into something else,” it sucks. I hate hearing this, even when I know it is for my own good. When I hear people say this, majority of the time the person saying it is someone who loves the person who just walked out to show off their dress attire. Words hurt more when the words come out of someone you love’s mouth. And it sucks even more when your really thought you looked adorable.

4. “Aren’t you going to be cold in that?”

giphy (8)

Let’s face facts: even though the weather is going to get colder, you still want to wear skirts and dresses right? In my opinion, you should be okay if you have a trench coat jacket to wear whenever you’re outdoors. A few years ago I wore a high-neck, floral blouse with a blur skirt that hit me right above the knee with some flare to it and heels for Christmas. I was proud of myself for finding the perfect blue coat to wear over it. Once I got inside my grandma’s house, once I took off my jacket and sat down, she took one look at my outfit and asked me, “aren’t you cold in that?” Because she is my grandma, I laughed it off.

5. “This item is sold out in your size…”

giphy (5)

This is a straight-up horror story. Period.

6. “Maybe this can be your Christmas/ Birthday gift”

giphy (7)

No. I want it now or as soon as pay day comes!

7. “Gift cards and money are the worst thing to give someone for their birthday/Christmas!”

giphy (3).gif

*spits out water in shock* Says who?? We can all use a little more money whether it comes in paper or plastic. I don’t see why these things are viewed as “thoughtless” gifts. Whenever I get these things, I know that the person knows that I am picky and a broke college student. They are doing me a big favor by giving me a gift card or money instead of buying me something that I probably wont use. I would like to know your opinion on this! Do you think gift cards and money are thoughtless gifts? Leave a comment!

8. “Oh, you must have a lot of money”

giphy (4)

A person’s closet builds up over time. Not all at once! Can fashion blogging get expensive? Yes! But so does smoking and drinking. So does musical equipment. So does automobile maintenance. So does sports. So does art. All hobbies come with a price whether it is financially or time consuming. We do these things by choice and no, this does not give anyone the right to assume we have all the money in the world. I assure you that a lot of us do not.

9. “You can never find anything good at the thrift store”

Yes you can! People get rid of great, quality items all the time! You just need to take the time to look around.

giphy (6).gif

10. “Maybe your outfit will finally catch so and so’s attention!”

I heard this a lot when I was single, but you know how us girls do NOT by $30 blushes to get a boy’s attention? The same goes for clothes too! Especially fashion girls who buy clothes because they want to look good for themselves!

giphy (9).gif

This marks the end of tonight’s blog. I added Dean Winchester GIFs because his facial expressions just kill me! I hope you guys enjoyed reading this blog and learned something today. Good night and stay stylish!

Light Jackets to wear NOW under $40!

Here’s a fact for you, I am a sucker for jackets! I love how easy it is to throw a jacket on top of a simple pair of jeans and a t-shirt and look a little more put together. I love that jackets help tailor an outfits specific style whether it is the print, fit or color. I always find myself gravitating towards a nice jacket when I go shopping even though I know I have plenty in my closet. Still, I just can’t seem to have enough! I live in Texas and even though it is autumn season, it is still very hot down here in Texas so jackets are a little too warm to wear right now. Luckily there are some light jackets to consider right now that I can wear indoors where the AC can be set to a ridiculously cold temperature and a jacket is needed. Here are my picks on some jackets under $40 that a perfect for fall weather!

Outfits: Week 4

Hello everyone! I have already completed a quarter of the Fall semester and cannot believe how fast time is flying by. The world of college is a fast-paced one! This week was a little different for me personally because my Monday class did not meet at my school, but instead took a trip to south side’s chamber of commerce were we had a conference with the chamber’s vice president. On this day, I dressed up a little more formal that I would’ve if I had gone to the classroom instead so as you will probably notice, I am wearing a pale peachy-pink blouse with a leopard printed skirt and some black flats. I took this picture right before I left work that day.

Mondayoutfit

Tuesday also had a different schedule than usual since my second class got cancelled! I had a super short day and just went with the outfit that required less effort than usual and laid-back compared to how dressy I was the day before. Even though this outfit and simple makeup look took me about 10 minutes total, it’s still a super cute outfit and was my favorite one this whole week! You guys know I am a crazy cat lady! I am obviously super happy in this photo!

Caturday

Wednesday it was just a day with me and my boyfriend so I decided to go back to my dressed up self and decided to take on the world wearing my new favorite skirt from boohoo which you guys saw earlier this week!

Wednesdayoutfit.jpg

Thursday…my school gave out free food. Brownies were involved. I am a messy eater. So I ended up getting chocolate on the original blouse I had which was a light blue color. Not cool. This is pretty much why I ended up going to Target because I wanted to get a different blouse. I found some pretty cool stuff on clearance and wore this new top happily as my original blouse paid a visit to the washing machine. The blouse I am wearing in this photo is one of the blouses I bought at Target and the leggings and lipstick shade make it perfectly suitable for a fall outfit. Happy Fall by the way!

Thursdayoutfit2

This week was definitely more different than usual since I was only really at school Tuesday and Thursday, but if I only did two outfits, this blog would have been way too short! Up next on my blog is all things in celebration of CATURDAY!

Stay tuned and stay stylish!

A Great Shopping Day

I was not supposed to go shopping today, but when it came time to take a picture of today’s school outfit, I looked down at my blouse and saw that it had some chocolate stains on it from the free brownies my school gave out. I never say no to free food.

My boyfriend and I decided to make our way to Target and yes, my intention was to buy a top to wear instead of sporting chocolate stains on a light blue blouse. About an hour later into Target, I walked out with two tops, a dress and a skirt. I got all these items for under $40!

While at Target, I also noticed some cute styles that were calling my name. Target has been really stepping up their game! I walked out very impressed. So first off, everything I bought was from the clearance rack. Secondly, clearance items are my favorite!

In the images below are all the items I bought today while shopping at Target.

I spent a total of $38.34 on all four of these items. Just look at the receipt!

20170921_220134.jpg

Yes, I am so aware of how wrinkly these clothes look, but I will iron them and model in them so you guys can have a better look at them! So what do you learn from reading today’s blog? Don’t dismiss the clearance section!

Stay stylish!

Fashion Deed Of The Week 2

It’s Sunday night. Where did the weekend go?

I am going to follow through with the Sunday night trend where I give you a random act of kindness challenge that I want you to apply this week.

Here is the scenario:

You just get paid and you want to treat yourself to a little shopping spree inside your favorite store. You clock out of your shift in excitement and make your way straight to the store. You walk in and aren’t helped by anyone. In fact, you aren’t even greeted when you walk into the door, yet you see associates looking at you as you make your way into the store. As you shop, you notice that the employees are just talking among one another and pay no attention you or to the other customers unless someone directly approaches them and asks for help. You buy what you want to buy, but then decide to go to a different store. In this next store, you are approached by an associate who asks you if you need any help. You kindly tell them that you just want to take a look around. The associate introduces themself and encourages you to ask them for anything you may need help with. In this second store, you experience great customer experience and have a great time there versus the first store you walked into where you weren’t even acknowledged.

Where am I going with this?

I know that not everyone works retail, but retail jobs aren’t the only jobs that require you to work on your customer service skills or people skills. If you are at work, do your best and treat your customers the same way that you would want to be treated. I have worked retail and call centers and I can tell you right now that I have had to provide customer service in both of these jobs and have done my best to help people out the best way that I can. It’s really disheartening when you work all day and provide good customer service yet go somewhere as a customer and get treated with poor customer service. Am I right?

Let’s switch things around…

Let’s say that you are the customer and you need assistance with something, remember that an associate or employee is not your slave that you can talk down to and demand things right then and there. Do NOT be that customer that can ruin and associate’s day!

Fashion Deed 2.jpg

I understand frustration on both ends. Maybe you’re an angry customer who has gone to several places yet no one has been able to help you. Or maybe you’re an employee who has been treated rudely by many customers and it is really bringing you down. Either way it sucks. It’s miserable. It’s no fun. So don’t be that person. Respect one another. Act as a decent human being.

Please remember this blog whether you are a customer wanting to go to the store, or an employee who is going to clock into work. Be kind. Do your best. Be helpful.

That is all I have for you guys tonight. I will talk to you all on Monday! Stay stylish 🙂

When Fashion Becomes Style

Do you ever read those fashion magazines that have specific sections that target a specific type of person interested in a specific type of style? Some examples of these are Sporty Glam, Edgy, Feminine, and Classy. Each page that has one of these categories will usually show some fashion finds that would spark the interest of whoever is into that certain style that’s titled on the page. I would see these inside of my Seventeen magazines all the time! I always looked forward to these sections each time a new issue came in because I wanted to see how I could mix and match different styles together and create my own unique wardrobe.

I think fashion becomes style when you mix and match different trends together and find something that works for you. If you are new to the fashion world and this seems a bit overwhelming right now, my advice to you is to go out and find different types of accessories. The accessory I am going to talk about today is choker necklaces!

chokerswithoutflash

Today I shopped at Forever 21 and hit the jackpot with these three chokers that would each fit into different categories if they were inside a fashion magazine.

If I had to describe my style, it would be pretty difficult because I like a little bit of everything. However, I mainly live in the world of all things edgy but girly at the same time. This would explain why I chose both the pink choker and the black choker. As for the one on top, I chose this because the silver color made me think of the 90’s which is my favorite decade of all time!

I  plan on wearing these this weekend and can officially say that I have found some great accessories that can give off a different style. Who says I can’t be girly one day and gothy the next day? Who says I can’t be a girly goth or dress more retro? The whole point of style is to have fun and express yourself in your own unique way. Who the heck wants to look like everyone else anyway?

If you are on the hunt for some choker necklaces, head over to Forever 21. I got these chokers for $1 each! Have a great night and stay stylish 🙂
