I really enjoyed everyone’s music questions! Thank you to everyone who took the time to ask me music related questions. The reason I did this was so I can get some ideas on what music topics I should blog about next. I am starting blog posts about music on Mondays, but do not worry, I will still talk about fashion and beauty on here too! Mondays are dedicated to music though. One of the questions I received on my Instagram was; “What are your favorite albums from the 90’s?” and this is the question that inspired today’s blog post topic.
I don’t think I’ve ever said it on here before, correct me if I am wrong, but I do not recall ever mentioning my age on here. I am 22 years old and my birth year is 1996. I already answered what my favorite albums of the 90’s were, if you missed it, be sure to find me on Instagram because I answer Instagram’s asked questions exclusively on there only.
Today’s blog post will be about my top 5 favorite albums that came out in 1996!
5. Matchbox 20 – Yourself or Someone Like You (October 1, 1996)
The first song that I heard from this album was the first track, “Real World” and to this day I enjoy sitting in the backseat of a car with the windows rolled down on weekend evening. It’s one of those songs that personally give me a bit of a nostalgic feeling of simpler times. Other than “Real World” I really like track 6, “Back 2 Good” from this album. It is not really played on the radio like “Real World” and “3AM” are which is why I’m including the song on this blog post to give you all a new song to listen to.
4. The Wallflowers – Bringing Down The Horse (May 21, 1996)
I’m not going to lie, I was really young when I saw the music video, “One Headlight” by The Wallflowers . But man…seeing Jakob Dylan in that video made me realize from an early age that I had a type! I swear to you guys, any famous guy with a mysterious vibe, dark hair and colored eyes had my attention from that point on! I love “One Headlight” but another song I also enjoy is track 3, “Bleeders” which I have hyperlinked if you click here, but I also know that judging from how I said Jakob Dylan made me realize I had a type, you all probably want to know what he looks like.
3. Soundgarden – Down The Upside (May 21, 1996) Yes, the same day as The Wallflowers!
When the news released about Chris Cornell’s death, the first album I grabbed was Soundgarden’s, “Down The Upside” and I gave the song, “Blow Up The Outside World” a listen. I didn’t know how to feel in that moment. I was so thrown off guard that Cornell would take his own life. I still have a hard time thinking about it, but I try to think about his music with bands Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, Audioslave and the music he created as a solo artist. He possessed one of the greatest voices in rock and I recommend listening to his music if you are interested in giving rock music a chance. One of his songs as a solo artist named, “Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart” had its video taken off of YouTube after his death was reported because the video features Chris Cornell’s character as a prisoner who is getting close to his death by being hanged. His suicide was due to hanging himself which he was discovered in his hotel room. Although tragic, I also want to add another one of his songs when he fronted the band Audioslave and it’s “Be Yourself”
The music video below is from one of the songs in the album I mentioned.
2. Rage Against The Machine – Evil Empire (April 16, 1996)
Rage Against The Machine gets very political, but these guys are rap rock at its finest. They are aggressive. They are upfront. They are distinguishable. I saw this album in my brother’s room when we had just moved into our new house. He told me that our dad wanted him to give it a listen. We listened to it together and while he found it very catchy, it wasn’t his cup of tea. On the other hand I wanted to hear more of Rage. Songs from this album that are played a lot are “People of the Sun,” “Down Rodeo,” and my personal favorite, “Bulls On Parade.”
1. Tool – Aenima (September 17, 1996)
Okay, where do I even start with this one? Maynard James Keenan is among my top 5 favorite frontmen. He just kicks ass. He can sing, he can scream, he can scare you, he can hypnotize you and there’s just no one else like him. He is the reason I started to love rock and metal. His other band, A Perfect Circle, has their song, “Judith” which started it all for me. I mentioned this fact in my last post in case you are a little confused reading this. This album got a lot of recognition for the songs, “Stinkfist,” Forty-Six and Two,” “H,” “Eulogy” and of course, “Aenima.”
I cannot choose which one of these is my favorite. I love all Tool songs. I love A Perfect Circle, and I love Puscifer too. I am going to link the song this album was named after right here: Warning, he says the F word a lot during a certain part of the song. If things like that bother you, do not feel obligated to listen to the song.
I will link an A Perfect Circle song that I think is very beautiful too even though it didwas not released in 1996. I’m putting their song, “3 Libras” on here so you all can hear how beautiful Keenan can sing too.
Listen to these and tell me what you think! Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, so do not be shy! We are talking music here and I want my blog to be a comfortable place for everyone.
I hope you enjoyed reading and listening to some of my favorite music that came out the year I was born! If anything, I hope you learned something new today and no matter what, just be you and do not give up on what you want out of life. I love you all!
Thanks for reading and stay stylish!
